Nicolo Whimsey is celebrating 26 years of merry performances in 2012. Nick Newlin and Joanne Flynn began their epic adventure of juggling, music, music, poetry, pantomime, character-acting and audience participation on the streets of Europe in 1986, and spent the rest of the decade traveling to Renaissance Fairs, performing a spectacle that included a performing pig named Venus. In the 1990’s, Nick obtained an M.A. in Theatre from the U of MD, and since 1996 he has spent three months out of each year as a Teaching Artist with the Folger Shakespeare Library, leading to his recent book series The 30-Minute Shakespeare. http://www.30minuteshakespeare.com.He also plays keyboards and accordion in the rock band Hot For Teacher and will be playing Fri July 27th at 6 PM at The Baldaccino tent with The Malodorous Good Times Rollers.In addition to her whimsical jestering, Joanne has developed a passion fo r preserving rural spaces, and was recently awarded the Aileen Huges Award for leadership in land conservation from the Maryland Environmental Trust.

Mark Lohr

At an early age Mark Lohr was inspired by the Great silent Comics Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy. He was also a huge fan of the Three Stooges and Abbott and Costello! Over 2 decades ago he ran away and joined the Circus and has never looked back! He now travels the world entertaining the likes of Mickey Mouse, audiences of Cirque de Solei, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as 2007 and 2009 attendees of the Kimtom International Clown Festival in Shanghai China! He has toured most of North America and Parts of China either with Circus, Symphonies, Festivals; Corporate Events (Disney, IBM, AOL, etc) and has performed on national Television as Part of the PBS broadcast of the Washington Opera’s performance of “I Pagliachi”. Mark is now based in the Washington DC Metro Area performing and teaching globally living with his beautiful wife Lisa and 5 wonderful children.

Toasty Poocracker

Toasty Poocracker is an actor, educator, graphic and web designer, and clown. Recent acting credits include a national tour with the American Shakespeare Center of The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, and Henry Vin repertory; Richard III and Pride & Prejudice with the Shakespeare Theatre of NJ; Proof with TheatreFest; A Midsummer Night's Dream with the American Globe Theatre; and the film Cult of Sincerity, recently broadcast on PBS. He has also taught workshops and classes in Classical Text, Acting Shakespeare, and Clown as a teaching artist for the Shakespeare Theatre Company and at other venues including Broadway Theatre Workshop, Knox College, and The Center for Baroque & Renaissance Studies’ summer program. He received his MFA at the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Academy for Classical Acting at The George Washington University. BFA, Montclair State University.

Gregory May and Erin Boots

Gregory May

Gregory May began performing professionally in 1990 when he joined the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. He toured North America for three years before returning home to Maryland. Since then, he has performed up and down the East Coast in over 3000 school shows, public and private events, and local television and radio spots. He has performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, in seven national commercials, on the White House lawn with Shari Lewis, in professional musical theaters in Columbia and Baltimore, MD, and for hundreds of children at the John’s Hopkins Children’s Hospital as a member of the Big Apple Circus Clown Care team. He has also taught circus skills and physical comedy at state and national high school theater festivals and has worked as a circus skills coach for Imagination Stage and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. He is also the director of the Greenbelt Youth Circus in Greenbelt, MD.His skills include: 5-object juggling, 6-foot unicycling, stilt walking, rolling globe walking, slack wire walking, fire and machete juggling, whip cracking, rope spinning, acrobatics, guitar and much more.

Erin Boots is a Theater major at Towson University and teaches circus arts for the Greenbelt Youth Circus.

Erin Boots is a fourth year acting student at Towson University. Over fifteen years of dance experience has lead her down this theatrical path that includes circus arts, aerial dance in particular. She has been seen in Towson University’s Elephant’s Graveyard and Macbeth as well as performances with Glass Mind Theatre and Baltimore Playwright’s Festival. For the past three years, Erin has been both a student artist and resource artist at Generous Company’s WordBRIDGE Playwright’s Laboratory. Currently, she is assistant coach for the Greenbelt Youth Circus. Come August, Erin will be a new cast member of Walt Disney World.

Matthew Pauli

Matthew Pauli, co-Producer of Clown Cabaret, is a 1991 graduate of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and has been clowning ever since. He appears regularly at corporate events, street festivals, fairs and picnics and in his stage shows. His work as a clown has taken him around the U.S. and as far as Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Since 1999, he has been proud to be part of the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Program, performing at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. For 6 years he toured with The Big Apple Circus sharing the role of Grandma with creator and International Clown Hall of Fame inductee Barry Lubin.

Karen Beriss

Karen Beriss, co-producer and emcee of this month's Clown Cabaret has been a professional magician for over 15 years. Performing at trade shows around the world, her magic and dry sense of humor - combined with corporate messaging skills - have captured the eyes of the press including National Public Radio, Market Place and The Wall Street Journal. She is super excited to have just joined the Big Apple Circus Clown Care program performing at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Karen is a regular at The Comedy Zone in Washington DC. She trained in improv and acting with Second City in New York. And she has performed for celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Kirstie Alley, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, the Washington Capitals and Robert Goulet. Most recently she worked with Leon Redbone. Plus, Karen’s mom thinks Karen is funny – so it must be true.

Rich Potter

Rich Potter is a co-producer and frequent performer for Clown Cabaret. He's studied with Ringling Bros, Maine's Celebration Barn Theater, and Nouveau Clown Institute in Barcelona, Spain, and still hasn't attained his dream of knowing anything.

His appearances on the David Letterman Show, at the Vice Presidential Mansion, in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and other venues domestically and in dozens of other countries have gotten him a laugh or two.
