Rachel Hynes is a devisor and performer. She likes making things, most notably plays.She will be doing research in Vietnam for a new play in May, so if you know anything about Vietnam, come talk to her.


Nick "Nicolo the Juggler" Newlin

In 1982 the character of Nicolo the Gypsy Juggler was born at the Maryland Renaissance Fair, and in 1986 Nick joined forces with wife Joanne Flynn and they became "NicoloWhimsey," traveling this great land of ours and living in a pop-up trailer. NicoloWhimsey has also performed in Europe and Asia. In 1996 Nick garnered a Master's Degree in Theater with an emphasis on Play Directing from The University of MD College Park.

Now Nicolo the Jester performs for children and families year-round, while adding an annual Winter-Spring residency with the Folger , directing a group of DC Public High School students in a Shakespeare play. He has managed to write an 18-book series entitled The 30-Minute Shakespeare. In his spare time, he plays Rock'n'Roll keyboards and accordion in a band called Zydeco Jed, walks the dogs in the woods, swims, and listens to all kinds of music all the time.

Les S. Moore

Les S. Moore at Clown Cabaret

Les S. Moore is pleased to be making his Clown Cabaret debut. You may have seen Les on the wall at your local post office, or the Las Vegas Casino Commission’s lifetime ban list. He is one of the world’s top stage pickpockets, is widely believed to be the actual D.B. Cooper, and is a compulsive liar.


Drew Richardson

Drew Richardson (aka Drew the Dramatic Fool) is best known as the first person in the 21st century to have new short silent movies shown before major motion pictures. Besides being a silent film star in the wrong century, Drew has been creating solo stage shows for the past twenty five years, which he has performed from Austin to Austria. He first studied visual comedy theatre with John Towsen at Ohio University, and later with Jacques Lecoq in Paris. As a guest-teaching artist, Drew has taught for many universities, festivals, and theatre companies including Point Park Conservatory for Performing Arts, University of Michigan, MotionFest, QuestFest, and 500 Clown. Drew is currently an artist-in-residence at the Baltimore Theatre Project, where his new show, "What The Fool?!?" premieres in June.

Matthew Pauli, Co-Producer

Matthew Pauli, co-Producer of Clown Cabaret, is a 1991 graduate of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and has been clowning ever since. He appears regularly at corporate events, street festivals, fairs and picnics and in his stage shows. His work as a clown has taken him around the U.S. and as far as Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Since 1999, he has been proud to be part of the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Program, performing at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. For 6 years he toured with The Big Apple Circus sharing the role of Grandma with creator and International Clown Hall of Fame inductee Barry Lubin.

Karen Beriss, co-producer and emcee of this month's Clown Cabaret has been a professional magician for over 15 years. Performing at trade shows around the world, her magic and dry sense of humor - combined with corporate messaging skills - have captured the eyes of the press including National Public Radio, Market Place and The Wall Street Journal. She is super excited to have just joined the Big Apple Circus Clown Care program performing at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Karen is a regular at The Comedy Zone in Washington DC. She trained in improv and acting with Second City in New York. And she has performed for celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Kirstie Alley, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, the Washington Capitals and Robert Goulet. Most recently she worked with Leon Redbone. Plus, Karen’s mom thinks Karen is funny – so it must be true.


Rich Potter, Co-Producer

Rich Potter is a co-producer and frequent performer for Clown Cabaret. He's studied with Ringling Bros, Maine's Celebration Barn Theater, and Nouveau Clown Institute in Barcelona, Spain, and still hasn't attained his dream of knowing nothing.

His appearances on the David Letterman Show, at the Vice Presidential Mansion, in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and other domestic venues and in dozens of other countries have gotten him a laugh or two.
